FRAUD:   Mike Aba

"Mike Aba", "Obi Azuka", and "Peter Coal" are the fake names used by a Nigerian criminal who tried to defraud me. As soon as I read the "DEAR FRIEND" of the first e-mail, I knew it was a scam, but for fun I decided to mislead the criminal into believing that I was falling for his scam. You can read the exchange of e-mails following.

This type of fraud is known as the Nigerian Fee scam. Unfortunately, gullible people do fall for this scam. Hopefully this page will alert more people and make criminals like "Mike" less successful.

He seems to be confused about his name. First he says, "I AM PETER COAL, I REPRESENT...", but he ends the message with "MIKE ABA". Actually, "Mike" is such an incompetent scammer that he sent me 2 copies of the above e-mail with 2 different names, one from "OBI AZUKA, obiazuka@mail.com" and the other from "MIKE ABA, mikeaba@mail.com", and both with "I AM PETER COAL".

I thought it would be fun to collect more evidence of the illegal fraud that "MIKE ABA" is committing, so I sent the following e-mail.

As I said, "Mike" is a dumb con-artist, he does not realize that his full mail header includes an "X-Originating-Ip" line. I did a traceroute on this IP address, here is the relevant part:

So anyway, back to his e-mail, he wants my telephone number, fax number and my name. This is classic for this type of fraud. He wants to start collecting this and other information about me in order to use it to empty my bank account, or other similar criminal activites. So NEVER provide these details to a con-artist like "Mike". So instead, I sent him the following e-mail:

heh, the documents specify the receiver as James T. Kirk. I checked the country code on the Alpha company telephone numbers "Mike" provided and 31 is indeed the country code for the Netherlands. I searched the web for the "alpha security company" that Mike mentions and that is mentioned in the document images, and I found www.alphagp.com. I don't know if this is the same company, but this alphagp.com does have a worldwide courier service. I contacted them and received a reply which was not entirely clear, but I think they were saying that they are not the same company as the "Alpha security group" mentioned in the documents from Mike.

I received a comment from a reader of this page who lives in the Netherlands:
"I read your fraud-log about Mike Aba, and since I live in the Netherlands I tried calling the numbers that were given. The odd this is that both numbers are assigned to mobile phones (so how did the get a fax on one line). The voice line rang, but wasn't answered, the fax line answered with a modem/fax screetching noise. And ofcourse, there is no company named Alpha Security in Amsterdam, there is however a mortgage broker, a coffee and tea wholeseller and a hairdresser under the name Alpha in Amsterdam :)"

I have reported all this to the FBI but the problem is that they get many of these reports every day. They are overloaded with reports of various scams.

Okay, this is going to become a bit complicated. I am going to reply to "mike isohr" as well as "mike aba", so watch the To and From fields in the e-mails. "mike isohr" is presumably the backstabbing partner in crime of "mike aba".

Also, I need some protection.  Before I left the USA, I emptied all my
bank accounts and withdrew all the funds as cash, so that my money
cannot be seized by the authorities back home when they discover about
Susan.  I am worried about carrying this much cash around.  I am
hoping that you have a safe where I could keep it.  Please tell me

I landed at Schiphol, and I am in Amsterdam now.  The damn cab driver
ripped me off, he charged me 30 euros for the short drive to the
city!!  Anyway, I'm currently staying up late at the Yab-Yum, enjoying
some "female pleasure" (wink wink).  Nearly got run over by a bicycle
before, the damn things are everywhere.

Please tell Mark Anthony that I want to meet him at 3 PM on Sunday
(today) at the MONUMENT in the DAM SQUARE (the big square in front of
the palace).

So that I can recognize him, please tell him to wear all yellow,
yellow pants and a yellow top.  Also, tell him to hop on one leg and
wave his arms around near the MONUMENT.  I will be watching from a
distance and as soon as I see a person wearing all yellow and hopping
near the monument, I will know it is him and I will approach him.

These people are DANGEROUS and I don't want anyone being hurt. Sending e-mails is one thing, but meeting one of these people in real life is not to be taken lightly.
